Mayor Dyas called the meeting to order at 11:20 a.m.

  • SD23 Superintendent provided an overview of the current state of SD23
  • Raised concerns with pushing and shoving to get onto buses
  • Raised concern with timing of buses and end of classes not in alignment
  • Raised concerns with bus schedules and lack of buses for after school extracurricular activities
  • Commented West Kelowna has a forum where students can raise transit issues with elected officials
  • Raised concerns with students vaping on buses
  • SD Superintendent spoke to relationship with City in determining Population projections and future school sites
  • Commented on shifting Ministry directives for school construction 
  • Spoke to advocacy role of City 
  • City Manager spoke to need for school planning to be part of neighbourhood planning
  • Spoke to increasing numbers of Child Car positions within the SD23 system earlier in the meeting
  • City Manager confirmed a signalized crossing will be installed on Frost Rd 
  • Supt thanked City for Casorso Corridor active transportation network
  • City staff spoke on a frost Rd extension estimated for completion in 2025
  • Discussed numbers and effectiveness of school liaison officers [CM to raise with RCMP Supt]
  • Trustee Fraser inquired whether City interested in forming a student - City elected official forum for student transit raising concerns
