The Chair called the meeting to order at 6:05 p.m.

Opening remarks by the Chair regarding conduct of the meeting were read.

 

Staff displayed a PowerPoint presentation outlining the application for a culinary college for humanity.

Staff responded to questions from the Comittee.

Ed Grifone, Applicant, CTQ Consultants and owner Stephen Cipes 

- Provided background to Summerhill Wineries.

- Provided an overview of the application.

- Highlighted the objectives of the culinary institution.

- Highlighted use of existing infrastructure.

-Innovative and Progressive step for Agriculture.

Confirmed the number of acres dedicated to vegetable and food production and mandate to buy from local farmers.

34,000 square foot of garden production on the bulding itself.

- background to the establishment of Summerhill Winieries

- Esra Cipes CFO, - read a letter of support from Hollyhock Lifelong Learning Centre in Cortez BC

- 80 acres confirmed.

Lead Chef  2965 upper Canyon Drive North, Culinary Arts Instrictor

- discussed chefs being the hugest purchaser of food in Canada and treacing them about cultural practivces

- discussed curriculum being on a working farm culinary experience.

Responded to questions from the COmmittee 

Ed Grifone responded to questions regarding parking stalls being mainly accommodated on the existing structure. Confirmed no agricultural land will be use for parking.

Chef outlined the 8 week culinary course with WestBank First nation taking place ion the Fall 2020.

- Outlined the school curriculum with Focus College, write their own curriculum and accredited via the Province.

- concerns - impact on other agruicltural properties 

- support the educational componenet

- concerend about accommodations being used for tourism vversus teaching opps.

concerned abou the size 9of the prioperty - smaller size facuility 

view in furture to more agricultural component in training.

- concerned about how much the primary food productuion will be emphazied. Production of frutira and vegetable as important as the culinary.

- wineries are given more ability to have nonagruiclutal use - concerned a facility like this could push th eboundary further - sets a precedent.

- reminder to COuncil of priority for compliance and enformencemnt  for these types of facilities.

Staqff confirmed the site has agrcutlural value. Not building a private entitiy it is a community beneg=fit that is utlising this, muitigates futrre land demansd.
